In 1966, Sichelschmidt pioneered the development of the first electric forklift for explosion-endangered environments. For many years, we have maintained our position as the market leader in this demanding segment of material handling technology. Sichelschmidt manufactures explosion-proof forklifts that comply with ATEX 94/9/EG for Gas Ex-Zones 1 and 2 and Dust Ex-Zones 21 and 22, as well as American regulations (Class 1 / Division 1 according to US NEC 500) and other national explosion protection standards.

Explosion Proof Forklift Trucks for Zone 1 and 21

In Zone 1 (Gas-Ex), an explosive atmosphere may occasionally occur during normal operation consisting of flammable gases, vapors or mists. This is often the case in chemical production, such as the coating industry, refineries, and hazardous goods warehouses. Sichelschmidt provides a variety of category 2G electric forklift trucks that comply with ATEX 94/9/EG for this crucial application area The product range includes pedestrian pallet trucks and four-wheel counterbalance trucks.

The product range is available for use in Zone 21 (Dust Ex). Forklift trucks for Zone 21 (Category 2D) should be used when an explosive atmosphere, containing a combustible dust cloud in the air, occasionally forms during normal operation. Given that all organic dusts are flammable at a certain concentration of dust-to-air mixture, this condition applies to specific areas within food and animal feed production as well as wood and plastic processing.

Explosion-proof Trucks for Zone 2 and 22

In Zone 2 or 22, the likelihood of an explosion (manifesting as the formation of an explosive atmosphere through a gas-air or dust-air amalgamation) typically remains non-existent or transient. Consequently, the required design precautions for explosion mitigation are comparatively less comprehensive.

As a specialist for explosion-proof industrial trucks, Sichelschmidt also provides a complete range of warehouse trucks and counterbalance trucks with load capacities of up to 3500 kg for this equipment category (3G/3D).
